Petrogenesis and Tectonic Evolution of Kab Amiri Ophiolites and Island-Arc Assemblages, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt: Petrological and Geochemical Constraints

چکیده

The Kab Amiri area in the Central Eastern Desert (CED) of Egypt comprises ophiolitic rocks, island arc metasediments, and granitic rocks. This study deals with petrography geochemistry rocks to understand their petrogenesis geodynamic evolution CED belt. ophiolite is dismembered, comprising serpentinites metabasalt (spilite). Serpentinites have low contents Al2O3 (1.14 wt%) CaO (0.65 wt%), suggesting they are depleted peridotite protoliths (e.g., harzburgites dunites). high L.O.I. value (13.7 serpentinite indicates intense hydration serpentinization during alteration processes. Petrographic geochemical studies suggest that were likely formed after peridotites a supra-subduction zone (SSZ) setting fore-arc setting). Spilitic basalt shows tholeiitic affinity mantle source. arc-related metasediments represented mainly by schists slate. Many samples relatively alumina (Al2O3 < 15%), clay content formation an setting. In contrast, island-arc metabasalts meta-andesites crystallized from calc-alkaline magmas immature oceanic arcs.

Geochemical constraints on the tectonomagmatic evolution of the late Precambrian Fawakhir ophiolite, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt

-The Fawakhir ophiolitic sequence is composed mainly of serpentinites, metagabbros, boninitic metagabbros and metavolcanics. The serpentinites have geochemical features similar to those of depleted-mantle peridotites. Major and trace element characteristics show that the ophiolitic metagabbro and metavolcanic rocks are of tholeiitic to calc-alkaline affinity. REE abundances in the metagabbros a...

The Pan-African arc-related volcanism of the Wadi Hodein area, South Eastern Desert, Egypt: Petrological and geochemical const

The Wadi Hodein area contains a wide variety of late Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rocks, represented by gneisses, serpentinites, metagabbros, metasediments, metavolcanics, metagabbro-diorite, granodiorite and granitoids. The Wadi Hodein metavolcanics (WHV), including G. Khashab and G. El Anbat, represent one of the significant metavolcanic suites in the southern part of the Nubian Shield...

Structural and tectonic evolution of the Umm Gheig/ El-Shush region, central Eastern Desert of Egypt

The rocks of the Wadi Umm Gheig/El-Shush area in the central Eastern Desert of Egypt form part of the Nubian Shield, a component of the Neoproterozoic Pan-African Orogeny. The rocks have been divided into three units: (i) low-grade metamorphosed rocks, which consist of metavolcanic rocks interleaved with slices of ophiolitic melange; (ii) high-grade metamorphic rocks, which consist of syn-tecto...

The Meatiq dome (Eastern Desert, Egypt) a Precambrian metamorphic core complex: petrological and geological evidence

The Meatiq basement, which is exposed beneath late Proterozoic nappes of supracrustal rocks in the Central Eastern Desert of Egypt, was affected by three metamorphic events. The ophiolite cover nappes show only the last metamorphic overprint. The M1 metamorphic event (T≥750 °C) is restricted to migmatized amphibolite xenoliths within the Um Ba∞anib orthogneiss in the structurally lowest parts o...

Petrological and mineralogical studies of Pan-African serpentinites at Bir Al-Edeid area, central Eastern Desert, Egypt

The studied serpentinites occur as isolated masses, imbricate slices of variable thicknesses and as small blocks or lenses incorporated in the sedimentary matrix of the mélange. They are thrusted over the associated island arc calc-alkaline metavolcanics and replaced by talccarbonates along shear zones. Lack of thermal effect of the serpentinites upon the enveloping country rocks, as well as th...
